A rant about blinders?

Are we, or at least the American people, proceeding through life with blinders on? Again, with the nomination of John Roberts the focus seem pointed at his views on abortion, the fact that he is in fact a man (as opposed to a woman like the judge he is replacing), and that he is not from a minority racial category (the Hispanic world seems particularly upset with this). Now while these remain poignant and viable politic and social issues that need to be tackled, the issue that bothers me the most is Roberts’ alleged alignment with business interest of those of “ordinary” people.

What this nation needs is a revitalized discourse about economic policy, the disparity between the few haves and the many have-nots. Politics in America has betrayed the poor, the working class, and now the mythical middle class, and yet the discourse remains about abortions. Folks, abortions may be made illegal, but like illegal drugs, guns, prostitution, and many others, it won’t make it go away. Personally I’d like to see abortion made illegal, even though I am personally pro-choice, only because this might be the straw that wakes mainstream America from its anti-political slumber, and make the say “Hey, how dare you do this to my country? You radical special interests cannot tell me when it is my best interest and when it is not in my best interest to have a baby!”

We need to wake up, before this country is robed from us by special interests and the business world. I’m not the anti-American, unpatriotic, so called “liberal” that so many of us are accused of being. I am pro-people, patriotic, and I can’t sit here silent while this country is stolen from the majority that lives here. I’m tired of the oligarchical leadership that has been leading us, that exists on both sides of the aisle. I’m tired and I’ve had it up to here.

Peace,
